Big Daisy Textile Space is the second collaboration with Annie Coggan and Janis Stemmermann. This project’s origins are from Stemmermann’s woodblock printing practice and specifically from her Flower (2018) project last summer where she inserted a textile panel of 100 woodcut daisies in her native New Hampshire landscape. Coggan was fascinated by this project, habitually scanning Instagram to watch how the work progressed. In the winter, when planning spring exhibitions at Russell Janis, Coggan proposed the inverse of the woodblock prints in the landscape, a giant woodblock print room in the gallery. This test of the power of scale and pattern continues Coggan’s focus on the potential of textile space and furthers Stemmermann’s epic textile practice.
